The Truth Every Christian Blogger Needs to Remember

I have been called to write words, to encourage, to speak His truth. He has equipped me, He has sent me. He has given me the words, it is through His grace that I am who I am and yet I worry.

Am I posting enough?

Does this picture look good enough?

How can I grow my email list?

How can I make money?

How do I get more done?

Why is it not growing?

Does anyone read this?

Worries, doubts, fears, concerns plague my mind and I forget the why and what of this thing I do.

I have been called.

Simple yet profound, and just like with Jesus I find myself wandering from it.

It’s not about the numbers. It’s not about the popularity of my site, nor the aesthetic appeal of my pictures. It’s not about having the coolest blog, or even making money {though I admit it would be nice}.

No at the end of the day, the thing I have to keep reminding myself is that it’s not about me.

It’s about Him.

It’s always about Him.

The reason I blog is not to make much of me, it’s not build a readership, or go viral. It’s about praising the One who gave me the words to speak, the One who knit me together in my mother, the One who called me out of darkness and clothed me in His righteousness.

The why of why I blog, is to give Him glory, to encourage His children.

The what of what I blog is His truth, the things He reveals in my life, the lies He calls out, the way He walks with me and guides me.

I don’t blog to become famous, I don’t blog to make money. I blog first and foremost to make much of Him. I don’t have to worry about the rest. He has a plan. He is in control and He will use the words I write to do His will—not mine.

If only I could remember this the next time I go to look at my analytics, to check to see if I’ve gained any readers.

It’s not about the numbers.

At the end of the day, if this whole blog, if all my work and effort amounts to ONE PERSON, one person instead of thousands, one person who from my words comes to know Christ, then I shall count it all joy and continue to praise the One who deserves all praise.

Remember why you blog. Feel encouraged, you’re doing great work, for we have a great God who is working through you.

I love this. Great post Christian’s can relate to in every aspect of their life. We sometimes lose track and let pride get in our way. I’m guilty of doing things for myself and God quickly reminds me. After all this may be my life but it is for Him and all Glory goes to Him.

    Blessings
    -Mallory A.

  2. Bree says:

I love this! Such a great reminder of why I blog and, really, why I do anything. Thank you for the words of wisdom!

  3. Sutana Monae says:

Okay… this is my life. I started blogging as an outlet and a way to share faith and connect with others and I’ve only been writing for a bit over a month and I already need to reminded that I am called to write to glorify God, not my newsfeed. Lol… thanks for a brilliant post and a fabulous reminder.

  4. I just had to thank you for this wonderful post! It was a marvelous reminder of what it’s really all about. Not me. It’s all for the One who gave His life for me! Please keep up the great work and know that you have encouraged me greatly today. God bless you, sister!

  5. Bree says:

Thank you for this! It’s definitely way too easy to get caught up in the number and trying to find some sort of success that is defined by the world. I needed to be reminded that we are here to glorify God and to draw others to Him. That’s success by His standards. Thanks for the inspiring words!

  6. Tega says:

This is such a beautiful and encouraging post. Thank you for writing it, I needed the reminder.

  7. Haley says:

Love this post, I am definitely bookmarking for later. I just happened to stumble upon your blog as I was searching for other Christian bloggers. I haven’t started blogging yet, but I plan on doing so in the very near future and surely I will want to remember these truths.

    • Sarah says:

I’m no expert Haley but if there is anything I can help with I would love to answer any questions you have about blogging to help you get started! 🙂

  8. Carmen says:

I love this post. I love your passion in all your writings. I can sincerely feel your passion for Christ. I just started a blog just a few weeks ago. Its intimidating with everything I need to learn. I love writing (especially about God and all that he does!) but the technology part is definitely a challenge for me. When I do need a little bit of encouragement of why I am doing what I am doing; I always end back on your site! I love reading your posts! Be Blessed! Keep following your calling!

  9. Well said, thank-you. It is so easy to wonder if your blog is being read or to be discouraged or even inflated over the numbers….that we take our focus off of what God has called us to do and why. Thanks for the encouragement!☺ Shannon Brandt. Christiansinglemoms.wordpress.com

  10. Andriana says:

    Sarah

Thank you very much. I’m so glad i stumbled upon this, it’s exactly what i needed to hear. I have been letting fear keep me from writing, the fear that no one would read my posts e.t.c. i truly needed this. I have been wanting to start a blog and write a book for a while now, i actually have some blog posts ready but i’ve been so afraid but your post reminded me for whom i’ll be doing it for and that I can do all things through christ who strengthens me.
    God bless you
    Shamiso

  13. Thank you for this awesome reminder. I am new to blogging and all of the "income reports", gorgeous photos and analytics overwhelm me. I have to remember that I started this new venture to "make much of Jesus". You have a beautiful site and I am so excited to read more.

  14. What a beautifully written post. So truthful and powerful. I love this! Thank you for sharing this reminder to those who strive to be a Christian writer/blogger. I’m working on both now. Completing my first manuscript and my blog. It’s all for His glory. Amen.

  22. FromWhitney says:

    I had to quote this
"If only I could remember this the next time I go to look at my analytics, to check to see if I’ve gained any readers."
It is so true. I started my blog a few weeks ago, and it has been disheartening because I struggle to get people to even know the blog is out there. I have put so much work into it on a daily basis, and looking at google analytics is not the high point of my day. I started a blog geared towards women. It’s about recipes, life, resources, tips, encouragement, inspiration, & anything interesting. Its like pulling tooth and nail just to get one person to see my site. I started blogging as a way to promote my Christian EBook, and I believe that this is the path that the Lord has geared me towards. I have been very discouraged lately and your short, sweet blog post has been used as a vessel to provide encouragement to me today. You have definitely helped at least one person. Thanks for your posts.

  23. Lureta says:

Thank you for this post and your encouraging words. I started my blog almost 2 months ago and yes it is a daily struggle wondering if anyone reads it and constantly checking the analytics. I know my calling and I know it is not me but Christ. He wants our obedience and He’ll handle the rest.

  24. Such great post. Its so important to honor God first in all that we do. I will have to keep coming back to this post as I continue in my blogging adventure. Give it all to God.

  25. Charmaine says:

Wow this is great! And definitely how I feel sometimes! I never want my blog to be about me.
When I created faithandhisgrace.weekly.com I wanted to praise his name and not make everything about me.

  26. Liz says:

Thank you…so needed the reminder ❤️

  27. Sydney says:

    Love this!! Thank you ♥

  28. Teka says:

thank you for this massage. I am considering starting a blog… this was very encouraging and my exact thought for starting a blog.

  29. Missy Lewis says:

These words, this Truth, came to me at such a perfect time! As I’m trying to get my blog up and running, all those thoughts you mentioned race through my mind. I want this to work! I want to be able to someday write for a living and return to my original position as wife and homemaker. But above all else, I want to glorify God in all that I do. More of Him. Less of me. Thank you for posting this! It was what I needed to read!

  30. Dee says:

Amen this is so true, ever since I started thinking this way, I’ve been much more peaceful with my content.
    Dee @ http://www.msdeekay.com/

  31. Hi, Sarah! I’m Sheri, and I can really relate to why you blog. I blog for the same reasons! Except I don’t have an "official" blog yet – trying to learn how – with a sieve for a brain at age 60, it’s a challenge! I use a second Facebook page right now to post the words I think He’s giving me. God has brought me through some amazingly difficult times with illness that is chronic and getting worse. But I read a book a couple of years ago titled "Choose Joy," about Sara Frankl. Her story inspired me to try looking for JOY every day, no matter how black it may seem. I’ve also been inspired by Ann VosKamp and have been counting gifts ever since I read her book. That’s a huge way that God is teaching me to see JOY.
Other bloggers don’t seem to understand that I, too, am not doing it to make money, but to bring God all the glory. So thanks! I’m happy to meet you!

  32. Mark says:

Thank you SO much for this post! I just came across it on Pinterest, even though it is a year and a half old. I have been working on getting ready to launch a blog since late March. I want to encourage others through life’s trials, but from a Christian man’s perspective. I keep thinking my site isn’t ready to launch — not good enough, where will my readers come from, how do I grow, etc. But I just need to do It! God has a plan and will accomplish it despite my efforts.
I am saving your post and will keep it as a reference to reread.

  33. Melissa Gendreau says:

Thank you for this post! I just launched my blog on Saturday and am doing my best to fight against the doubt and worry. But I know I am called by God to write. I am a Christian mental health therapist so I know I have an added level of experience to bring people through pain and to God. You have touched me today as I hope to touch someone as well! Thank you and God bless!

  34. Regina says:

I realize this is an old post but this was very helpful to me. I’ve been blogging for years now and it’s really okay that I have just a handful of followers. I just want my blog to be a blessing to the women who read it.
Thank you for this encouraging post.

  35. Emily says:

Thank you so much for your beautiful words and timely reminder about my priorities! It’s so easy to get caught up in the stats and hype of blogging, but the most important thing is definitely Him and spreading His Word.
May God bless you and your family!

So glad you wrote this, & will definitely share with other bloggers & keep this saved for when I need it! Blessings & love xoxo Kristen
